Nothing leaves your Mac.

1The short version

Deskwatch is a theft alarm, so it watches the motion sensor in your MacBook the whole time protection is on. None of those readings ever leave your Mac. The app has no account, no sync, no analytics, and it does not need an internet connection to work. The one thing it sends anywhere is your licence key, with your Mac's name, to check that the key is valid.

The only personal information we ever see is the email address you use when you buy a licence, so we can find your order and help you with it later. The website keeps no analytics.

2What the app collects

Nothing. Motion readings are processed in memory on your Mac and thrown away as soon as they have been checked against the trigger. No reading, alarm, timestamp or location is written to a file, sent to us or sent to anyone else.

Your settings, such as the siren you chose and how long the countdown is, are stored on your Mac in the app's own preferences, the same way any Mac app stores its settings. Your licence key is kept in the macOS Keychain. Both stay on your Mac.

When Deskwatch asks for Touch ID or your password, macOS handles the check. The app only learns whether it succeeded. It never sees your fingerprint, your password, or anything about them.

If you set a Shortcut to run when the alarm fires, that Shortcut runs on your Mac under your control. What it does, and where it sends anything, is up to how you built it.

3When you buy a licence

Payment is handled entirely by Dodo Payments, which sells the licence as merchant of record. Your card or UPI details go to them and never to us, and their own privacy policy governs what they keep.

Once a payment clears, Dodo emails your licence key and receipt to the address you used, and keeps a record of that address, the purchase reference, the date and the key. We can look that record up, and that is how we resend a key you have lost, process a refund, or find your order when you write to us.

When you enter your licence key in the app, the key and your Mac's name are sent to Dodo once, to activate it. After that the app sends only the key and the activation reference Dodo gave back, every three days, to check the key is still valid. Your Mac's name is not sent again, nothing else goes with either request, and the app keeps working when it is offline.

We do not send marketing email, and there is no newsletter to unsubscribe from.

4The website

This website uses no analytics and sets no tracking cookies. The one thing it stores in your browser is your choice of light or dark theme, if you change it, and that never leaves your browser.

Our hosting provider keeps ordinary server access logs, which include IP addresses, for a short period to keep the site running and to investigate abuse.

5How long we keep it

Purchase records stay with Dodo for as long as your licence is valid, because they are what lets us help you with it and honour a refund. Server logs are rotated within a few weeks by the hosting provider.

6Your choices

Email [email protected] and we will tell you what we hold under your address, correct it, or delete it. Deleting a purchase record means we can no longer look up your licence, so we will confirm with you first.

Because the app sends nothing, there is nothing in it to opt out of.

7Changes and contact

If this policy changes, the date at the top moves and the change is described here. We will not quietly start collecting something this page says we do not.
