Plain terms for a simple purchase.

1The agreement

These terms apply to the Deskwatch app for macOS, this website, and the licence you buy from it. By downloading, installing or buying Deskwatch you agree to them. If you do not, do not use the software.

“We” and “us” mean the maker of Deskwatch. “You” means the person or organisation using it. Purchases are processed by Dodo Payments, which sells the licence as merchant of record, so its terms also apply to the payment itself.

2Your licence

A licence is a one-time purchase. One key activates Deskwatch on one Mac, for personal or business use, for as long as you like. There is no subscription and nothing to renew.

You can move your key to a different Mac. Turn the licence off in Settings on the old Mac first, which frees it, then activate the new one.

The licence is yours to use, not to sell. You may not share, resell, sublicense or publish it. If you want to protect several Macs, buy a key for each, or write to us and we will sort out a fair price.

You may not reverse engineer, decompile or modify the app, except where the law expressly allows it.

3Updates and versions

Every 1.x release is included in your licence at no extra cost. A future major version may be a paid upgrade, and if it is, we will say so plainly and your 1.x licence keeps working.

We may add, change or retire features between releases. We do not promise any particular feature will exist forever.

4Refunds

If Deskwatch is not what you expected, email [email protected] within 14 days of buying and we will refund you in full, no questions asked. The refund goes back to the card or account you paid with, and a refunded licence stops being valid.

A payment reversed through your bank or card issuer without contacting us first is treated the same way, and the licence is revoked.

5What Deskwatch is, and is not

Deskwatch is a deterrent. It makes a loud noise and locks the screen when your Mac is moved, so that taking it is hard to do quietly. It does not track your Mac, recover it, or stop a determined person from carrying it off. You are still responsible for your Mac and for deciding where it is safe to leave it.

Like any alarm, it depends on conditions being right. It cannot work when the Mac is asleep, shut down, or has its lid closed, and it can be defeated by anything that stops the Mac from running. It may occasionally miss a movement or react to one that was harmless. Specifically, we cannot be responsible for:

• a Mac, or anything on it, that is taken while protection is on or off,
• an alarm that did not fire, or fired later than you expected,
• an alarm that fired when nobody was stealing anything, and whatever followed from the noise,
• a Mac that stayed awake longer than you wanted because protection was left on.

The siren is loud on purpose. You are responsible for using it somewhere that is appropriate.

6No warranty

Deskwatch is provided as is. We work hard to make it reliable, but we do not warrant that it is free of errors or that it will suit a particular purpose. To the fullest extent the law allows, we exclude all implied warranties.

7Limit of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability to you for anything arising from Deskwatch, the website or these terms is limited to the amount you paid for your licence. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including a lost or stolen Mac, lost data, lost profits or lost time.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including consumer rights that apply where you live.

8Ending the licence

We may revoke a licence that is shared, resold, obtained by fraud, or used to break these terms. You may stop using Deskwatch at any time by deleting the app.

9Changes and contact

We may update these terms. The date at the top changes when we do, and continued use after a change means you accept it. Material changes will be noted on this page.
